Pedi Paws Review
LISTEN UP, SPCA
Trimming dog toenails is an unpleasant responsibility that most of us pass on to the vet. Trouble is, we can do it ourselves (unlike expressing anal glands...another story, perhaps), and in these tight-budget times, we should.
Enter Pedi Paws. It is classic capitalism. Address a need. Reduce the consumers' pain. Right. What about the poor dogs?
I suckered for the ads and bought a Pedi Paws at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I read the directions, which included conditioning your dog to the appliance, and how to lay on the dog to immobilize it and trim away even if it didn't accept the conditioning.
A number of times I sat with Buzz and Jackie, my Jack Russells, and treated them to treats while turning on the little device and familiarizing them with it until they were accustomed to the trimmer.
Then I took Buzz to my workshop and placed him on the workbench. Then I turned the gadget on and held him as I carefully touched it to his nail. BAD IDEA! The coarse grinding was plainly intoIerable. The Pedi Paws is no more than an inexpensive, miniature, noisy drum sander. Buzz was no more willing to cooperate than I was willing to torture him.
The concept might work if you had a well-built, vibration-absorbing, quality machine...but that would require Black and Decker or Milwaukee or Porter Cable as manufacturers, and it would be much, much more than $19.99.
DON"T DO THIS TO YOUR PETS! Don't buy the dumb thing, and if you did, return it.
I shudder each time I pass a display. Far better that I revert to my previous method, which is to give the dogs a bath and clip their nails, while soft, in the tub. The dogs and I don't like it, but on the other hand, we get it over quickly without the torment of Pedi Paws.

Hum.................. go back to cooking!
meanie!!!
Maybe a PRAWN dish?
Midge, I would never be a Meanie to my dogs. The point of my entry was to dissuade people from buying the darned device.
Please re-read what I wrote. I don't want you to think ill of me.
A SANDER?! E gads...
You and your poor pups. I LOATHE doing that chore for my pup, Travis. His nails are all black, so I can't tell where the blood line is. I definitely leave that chore for the vet, but they claim that since I take my dog on walks around the neighborhood on concrete, the ground acts as a natural "sander".
So far, they are right, but if his nails get long enough to scrap against the pavement to wear down, aren't they too long?
Thank you for the review. I will NOT be buying that.
