Yellow Warbler is the Y in Carrie's Animal Alphabet Book

This cutie in Carrie's animal alphabet book is called a Yellow Warbler, and I am using him (?) for the letter Y.  I was was well into the painting, and I realized I would need to do something about the "thing" he was perched on.  Originally, I had him only on a small branch, and he looked like he was floating.  Not a good look, I saw, but neither was this!  In the next view you will see he looks like he is in a bush, much better I believe.

I used three different shades of yellow, and yellow, red and blue for the 'black' on the wing areas.  I used the same dark color for the eye and the beak, but the beak had different proportions, for it to look less dark.  I also used more water and less pigment for the beak.

Now the Yellow Warbler is sitting in a bush, looking much more comfortable.  To see him better, I took the picture closer to him...can't see the whole bush.

For the shading under the wing, and on the bird's underside, I used the yellow with blue and a very small touch of red to make a gray-green color.  I left the white that you see on the paper white, no pigment was used.  I also used the reddish color on the legs and for some feathers.  A small bit of burnt sienna and burnt umber was used for added darks.  They don't show very well in the picture but they are there.

So, one more picture.  And I'm sure you can guess what that animal will be, of course the Zebra.  I love the picture, it is a close up of a face, overlooking the back end of another Zebra.  Emphasis on the face!  See you in a week!

Doesn't he fly off the page?
What are you going to do now the last page is near?

Oh my goodness, I just want to pick him up and cuddle with him! He actually looks FLUFFY!

I love that you showed the evolution of the "perch". I didn't mind the branch in the first picture, but when you made it into a bush, WOW what a difference.
