Oh, monkey tails and diaper pails! We were so close!
Two nights ago Lily almost slept through the night. She only woke up once, and that was for a dirty diaper. I don’t know about anyone else, but that would have woken me up too.
This was almost the most wonderful night since she was born. I am looking forward to her sleeping through the night much more than either of the other two girls. Sleep deprivation is not fun. And, there are 2 parents to deal with the nighttime wakings. I can not imagine how single parents do it. I really can’t. I’m a zombie in the mornings as it is, and I’d be even worse if I had to get up with the baby every single time instead of just half the time.
Last night we were out late, so everyone’s bedtime routine was thrown off. Lily still did pretty well, only waking up 6 times or so… Only 2 ‘real’ times when she needed a diaper change or bottle. The other times were when she wouldn’t fall back asleep after waking up. She would wait about 10 minutes or just long enough for Michelle or me to make it back to our bed and fall asleep. Then she would take up squeaking. Usually she just dropped her pacifier and wanted someone to stick it back in. That’s something else I can’t wait for - when she can find her own pacifier.
When Michaela was little we called her the “Pacifier Queen”. She would go to bed with 5 to 7 pacifiers - one for her mouth and 2 or 3 for each hand. After a few hours she would be down to one pacifier in her mouth and the rest were on the floor. We could even hear her over the monitor dropping the pacifiers or throwing them out of the crib (she thought this was fun… until she ran out of pacifiers). I remember sitting up with Michelle, listening to the sounds of the pacifiers hitting the floor over the monitor. We would count to see if we really needed to go in to her, or if she should still have at least one pacifier left. She would start crying, but we would stop each other from going in, saying “nope, she only threw 6 pacifiers. There’s one left!” Sure enough, she would quiet down once she found that last one.
Tonight is another night, and we’re hoping that she’ll make it all the way through the night shortly. One of Michelle’s friends had a baby recently, and hers was sleeping through the night at 7 weeks. Lucky lady….
